More than one visitor to Blighty's shrine of all things British has declared himself to be a soccer player of high status. Not only have I met former professional FA league players in the store, but even players capped for their country.I wanted to be a professional footballer when I was a lad. I spent a large amount of time training at the local park in my youthful years. I even worked with a local amateur team coach for a while. Alas, it was not to be. We all have our calling and mine was not destined to be on the football field.
Of course, as I revealed in an earlier post, destiny did not keep me out of football stadiums entirely. Many a saturday afternoon saw this terror of the terraces at Selhurst Park spinning a rattle for Crystal Palace.
This summer, the FIFA World Cup soccer competition takes place in Germany. England will win. Trust me on this. It has been so long since England won a World Cup (1966) that the last Toronto Maple Leafs Stanley Cup win has taken place since then. Now that the Leafs have disgraced themselves for yet another season, the England soccer squad has a chance to pull a win out of this summer's competition and give some of us here something to cheer about.
And cheering comes easier if you have the right tile on yer bonce. Blighty's will have a lot of England fanwear in stock during the buildup to our first game. The hats in the picture are just some of the designs that are already in stock.
Now, mark your calendars; England will beat Paraguay in Frankfurt on Saturday June 10th.
