Hey Up Chuck

"Hey Up Chuck" was one of the familiar expressions used by Coronation Street character Hilda Ogden who appeared on the Street between 1964 and 1987. Hilda was a char (housemaid) who cleaned the Rovers Return.

This image captures the character very well. It shows Hilda standing proudly in front of a picture of her husband Stan (who had died). It also shows the "muriel" (sic) of a coastline with three ducks that she was so proud of.

This image, along with another from Coronation St ("Mine's a Pint, Landlord") and a third from the British TV show "Last of the Summer Wine" ("Old Rascal") have been licenced from Granada TV by the publishers of "On The Air" magazine and turned into attractive T-shirts now on sale in Canada only at Blighty's.

By the way, Jean Alexander, who played Hilda Ogden on Coronation Street can now be seen in the role of Auntie Wainwright in Last of the Summer Wine.

Whether you are a fan of Coronation Street and Last of the Summer Wine, or not, you have to concede that these shows do capture that old spirit of Britain that those of us in Canada left behind so long ago.

Now that the weather is finally getting warmer it's time to pick up some extra T-shirts. The selection at Blighty's is growing. Come on in and take a look.
