Product Review: Coronation St Magazine

Late last year I made an arrangement with the publishers of the very popular "Coronation Street Special" series of magazines to bring another issue into Canada for 2008.

For confidential commercial reasons the magazine was re-branded as "TV Today". Despite the name change it is the same 48 glossy colour pages dedicated to interviews with the stars of Coronation Street.

Just a little piece of background information for you to digest: Coronation Street is the longest running TV soap opera in the world. A pilot episode ran on 9th December 1960 and the show has been in constant production since then.

Incidentally, William Roache, who plays Corrie's Ken Barlow is the only actor who has been a part of the show since the day it first went to air.

Myths About TV Today

But back to the magazine. A number of myths have sprung up about this year's magazine which I would like to dispel right here and now.

Myth #1: TV Today is a UK TV listings publication. This is dead wrong. The mythmongers are confusing TV Today with the UK's "TV Times" magazine.

Myth #2: TV Today - Coronation Street Special is full of "spoilers". As we are all painfully aware, the Canadian version of Corrie is running about 9 months behind the UK version. Some Corrie fans just don't want to know what is going to happen on the show ahead of time. Well relax, TV Today is not about what's happening on the show, just interesting stuff about the actors.

Myth #3: TV Today is the same as the old "Coronation Street" magazine. False again. There used to be an excellent monthly magazine titled "Coronation Street" but it ceased publication several years ago.
