Why Pay Excess Baggage Charges?

Some British products cost more in UK supermarkets than they do in Canada. I spent most of July in England checking out British food stores looking for new ideas, comparing prices and investigating new British products to bring into Canada. The UK has become a very expensive place to live and as prices continue to escalate it makes more sense to buy some things here in Canada rather than haul them back in your luggage. On numerous occasions, customers have come into Blighty's to buy gifts for family here in Canada after a trip to the UK. Why pay your airline's excess baggage charges when Blighty's has already paid to ship your favourite items across the pond?

But, the trip also had its lighter moments. One of the group that I travelled with was having a lot of trouble remembering which side of the road to drive on. John hails from Manchester but has been living in Canada for many years. He has always had trouble telling his left from his right.

"Keep left" his wife kept telling him. "I am on the left" he replied. "No, the other left" she screamed.

It was clear that another system had to be found. After a couple of harrowing days an answer was found: "just remember the driver is in the middle of the road". It worked - for a while.

Then, one cool, dark and rainy evening John was making his way down the motorway back to his B&B, when his mobile phone rang. It was another member of our group of visiting Canadians calling. "John, be careful" the voice on the phone announced, "I just heard on the radio that somebody is driving the wrong way on the motorway".

John cleared the raindrops from the car's windshield, peered out at all the oncoming headlights in the road ahead and said: "you'd better believe it, there's hundreds of them!"
